About

Self-defense and violence prevention classes using judo, wrestling, and situational awareness training. Azariah May Academy runs the BOLD series for teens and adults, Camp Matador for kids ages 6-11 focused on bullying prevention, and the STRONG program that combines fitness with character development for ages 7-17. Your kid can start as young as 6 with the Matador program that teaches verbal assertion skills and basic restraint techniques. The instructors are certified victim advocates who use a trauma-informed approach. Both individual classes and ongoing memberships are available, and no prior martial arts experience is needed.

• B.O.L.D. Level II

  Class

  Teens build on Level I skills with weapons disarming techniques and live situational awareness exercises. This 16-hour course includes training in weapon use and disarming in realistic environments. Coaches are certified victim advocates trained in trauma response.

• S.T.R.O.N.G.

  Class
  Ages 7–17· Membership Required

  Kids work on strength, agility, and speed through structured fitness workouts while coaches provide mentorship. Workouts happen three times per week with quarterly assessments so parents can track progress. Monthly cultural events help kids appreciate their local culture and history.

• B.O.L.D. Level I

  Kids learn situational awareness and basic self-defense tactics through realistic scenarios designed to prevent violence. This 12-hour course is designed for teens and doesn't require any prior martial arts experience or specific fitness level. Coaches are certified victim advocates trained in trauma response.

  Kids practice judo and wrestling-based techniques focused on bullying prevention and verbal assertion skills. This 9-hour course teaches your kid to restrain larger aggressive children and get adult help when needed. Coaches are certified victim advocates trained in trauma response.

• Camp Matador

  Kids practice judo and wrestling techniques while learning about what makes them unique and how to assert themselves verbally. This 20-hour camp teaches off-balancing self-defense techniques as a last resort for bullying situations. Coaches are certified victim advocates trained in trauma response.
