High Ridge Scrub Natural Area

About

A 39-acre scrub habitat preserve with two trails - a quarter-mile paved path and 1.5-mile sandy trail through former sand dunes. The area protects gopher tortoises and other native species, with diverse terrain including white sand, pine woods, and cactus areas that parents say reminded them of walking through small hills. Good for families with kids who can handle sandy trails and sharp cacti with supervision. Parents mention it's less suitable for toddlers due to the prickly plants. Parking fits only 5-6 cars with no restrooms, so plan accordingly. The entrance gate stays closed to protect the resident tortoises.
