About

A 2-mile kayak trail winds through wetlands and nine native Florida ecosystems at this 13,000-acre preserve, the largest natural area in Palm Beach County. The paddle route follows the C-18 Canal through prime habitat for snail kites and swallow-tailed kites, with catch-and-release fishing allowed along the way. Good for kids who can handle a longer paddle, though the trail offers plenty of wildlife spotting to keep them engaged. The kayak launch has dedicated parking and connects to hiking trails and an observation tower if your family wants to explore on foot too.

The Loxahatchee Slough Natural Area Kayak Launch gives kids a chance to paddle through Palm Beach County's largest and most biologically diverse natural area, exploring wildlife and wetlands from the water. This is a great spot for families who want to get outside and experience nature up close, whether your child is just discovering kayaking or already loves being on the water. The natural area straddles PGA Boulevard about 2.2 miles west of the Turnpike in Palm Beach Gardens, and it's open from sunrise onward, so you've got flexibility with timing. Costs vary depending on what you're doing, so it's worth checking directly with Palm Beach County's Environmental Resources Management to find out current pricing and what's included.
